What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is an ancient Christian tradition designed to help people awaken more fully to the presence of God in their lives, thereby enabling them to reach new levels of inner peace and freedom.
The premise of spiritual direction is that God is present and active in our daily lives in a multitude of ways. Although these ways can typically go unnoticed, spiritual direction allows us to become increasingly aware of God’s presence and purpose for us.
The goal of spiritual direction is to open the door to a transforming, intimate, moment by- moment friendship with God, thereby nurturing your sense of wonder and mystery, your capacity for love and compassion, and your joy in finding your true purpose.
Spiritual direction is not about telling you what to believe or do. Rather, it is partnering with a spiritual director in working with the Holy Spirit to discover and engage in what God is doing in your life.
What is a Spiritual Director?
Spiritual directors are trained to guide others in growing in their authentic relationship with God and finding deeper connections in their lives. A spiritual director listens to your life stories with an ear for discerning the movement of the Holy Spirit in your life, and then assists you in responding to the inner voice of God.
Spiritual Directors maintain a professional relationship with their clients, with strict boundaries of confidentiality and respect. We abide by the Code of Ethics developed by Spiritual Directors International, which may be found at: www.sdiworld.org.
Is Spiritual Direction like Psychotherapy?
Spiritual direction is similar to psychotherapy in that you will share your past and present experiences with me, as you feel comfortable.
We are searching for fingerprints of the Holy Spirit in your life, to allow healing and direction that comes from Him.
Spiritual direction consistently asks, “Where is God?” in all of your experiences to help you open up your heart and mind to how God is speaking to you and leading you. Reflecting on the presence of God means that our time together becomes holy, creating a sacred space between us and God.
As you become intentional about seeking a deeper relationship with God, you will marvel as he reaches out in love to work his artistry in your soul, your mind and body. We will notice where He has always been in your life experiences, as we may revisit the old, and we look forward to seeing Him in the new.
